Seeing Beyond Assumption

There are moments when I realize I’m not actually seeing the person in front of me—I’m seeing my thoughts about them. Their tone becomes a story. Their silence becomes meaning. And before I know it, I’m responding to something that was never truly there.

Today, I practice something different.

I choose one simple anchor: listen fully before responding.

Not to reply. Not to prepare. Just to receive.

I notice how quickly my mind tries to fill in the gaps—to predict, to protect, to assume. And when I catch it, I don’t judge it. I gently return to what is actually happening. Their words. Their presence. This moment.

There is a quiet shift here.

When I allow someone to be new, even for a few seconds, something softens. The past loosens its grip. The need to be right fades. I begin to meet them as they are—not as I’ve decided they are.

Integration, for me, is this real-time practice.

Not perfect. Not constant.
But intentional.

Today, I will choose one moment to see clearly.
